Project Management.
Project
Management in the technology sector can be divided into two broad
areas.
Infrastructure
project management includes project management of IT and infrastructure
deployment projects. These projects are typically large budget projects
employing strict Project Management Methodologies (PMM) and System
Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
Commercial
Project Management usually involves the creation of a product or
service which is then taken to market. In some cases it may include
infrastructure deployment. Commercial Project Management requires
knowledge not just of the technical environment but also marketing,
financial and business operations.
Commercial
project management is usually less able to fit within standard methodologies.
This is usually due to the large number of external influences on
the project (usually market and marketing driven).
Success
in commercial project management means faster time to market and
increased revenues or customer retention.
